Permaculture Noosa September meeting - from 7pm (market stalls) at the Cooroy Memorial Hall, Main Street, Cooroy. All welcome, gold coin donation for tea and coffee.

SEPTEMBER MEETING - Thursday 18th.
Sonya Wallace and Janet Millington will present...

“Permaculture Solutions to the Challenges of Peak Oil and Climate Change in our Region and Beyond”

Sonya and Janet will tell how Permaculture is the basis of the Transition Movement and how this movement is now sweeping the globe. They will explain the Sunshine Coast’s valuable contribution and present all the lessons learned from a number of Transition Towns they have supported within Australia and discuss their recent meeting with David Holmgren to discuss energy descent planning and the Transition movement.

Sonya and Janet will give a step by step plan to move your community from oil dependence to local resilience.

Even if you have never considered the solutions Permaculture offers for a sustainable future before, the thousands of towns throughout the world now turning to this initiative should encourage you to come along and consider the benefits for your local community.

We are unique in the world - we have the regional framework in place to make it easier for towns within the Sunshine Coast region to join the Transition Movement and network together. The doors are open and people are listening... now is the time for action.

Background
Both Sonya and Janet have been working voluntarily full time on the Sunshine Coast Energy Action Centre (SEAC) for 2 years and have made successful links with many diverse community organisations and with council that have benefitted local communities and permaculture groups. The work they have done on energy descent action planning and community education through SEAC was the catalyst for the Sunshine Coast being recognised as a Transition Initiative and Australia's first.

Sonya has a background working in strategic planning, communications, emergency services, state government and universities. She has her Permaculture Certificate and owns a permaculture demonstration site in Eudlo, is an active member of several local permaculture groups and community gardens, co-founded the Sunshine Coast Energy Action Centre (SEAC) and the Eudlo Relocalisation group, had the Sunshine Coast recognised as the first Transition Town outside the UK and recently had Eudlo accepted as a Transition Town in its own right within the regional structure.

Janet is a Permaculture teacher and designer who has a permaculture demonstration site in Eumundi, is a supporter of many Permaculture Groups on the coast, in QLD and NSW. Janet runs courses from the Eumundi Bamboo Forest and in Sydney and has recently released her book co-written with Carolyn Nuttall, “Outdoor Classrooms”. Janet co-founded SEAC, and together with Sonya volunteers a significant amount of her time in promoting the Transition Town Initiative and permaculture throughout Australia.
