Sustainability, Conservation and Renewables and the Future of Ontario's
Electricity System

WHERE - UWO university, Social Science Centre, Room 2333
(UWO campus map - http://www.geography.uwo.ca/campusmaps/)

Mark Winfield
, an assistant professor at York and a long-time energy policy consultant (with the Pembina Institute) will speak about the potential of massive up-scaling renewable energy in our energy grid.

The presentation will examine the evolution of Ontario's electricity system from a sustainability prespective, and present modelling results developed for the Pembina Institute/WWF-Canada Renewable is Doable project regarding the environmental and economic performance of potential alternative future scenarios for the system. These alternative scenarios place greater
emphasis on conservation and low-impact renewable energy sources than the proposal from the Ontario Power Authority currently under consideration before the Ontario Energy Board.
