At the meeting, Pete requested I post this in case it would be useful to someone intending to do something similar. At our town meetings there is a public privilege (5 minutes per person) for anyone who wishes to speak. I took my oilposter.org poster and gave the attached speech. I also gave out some CD's and am attaching the readme file from the CD.
Let me know what you think and/or if anyone finds it useful ! I stole from Roscoe Bartlett shamelessly when preparing it.
The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil arrived today. I watched it last night and thought it was really good. If anyone wants to borrow it email me.

My wife doesn't follow current events as much as I do. Though I have asked her to look into the peak oil phenomenon so she could give me some independent thinking, she is not yet willing to do so. I tried to collect basic information and basic actions in a concentrated information packet - it is a 5 page word document. Any feedback would be appreciated. If anyone finds it useful for themselves feel free to copy it as liberally as I copied others in making it. All this assumes I successfully get the file to attach to this post - if it doesn't and you want to look at it just email me.
Thanks,
I happened to see this on the 'Events' part of the website but not in our local group part of the website. http://www.postcarbon.org/node/2706 Anyone know anything about this group ? I can't find anything. - Ben
I emailed a 'Trip Report' to a friend of mine and posted it a peak oil discussion board. The response of my friend and the people on the discussion board surprised me quite a bit. In both cases others assumed I was joining the group out of altruism. I'm not. I just try and keep up with the world and act in my own intelligent self-interest. As I have learned about our world and national energy situations, I found the magnitude of the problem WAY beyond my ability to solve on my own. I want my family to live and live happily. Brainstorming with others and lessening my ignorance of energy efficiency tricks will help me to get what I want. Influencing my community to localize so we thrive better together will help me get what I want. I find it baffling that others don't see it this way.
