The organizations currently involved in this project are Eugene Parks and Rec., Eugene Storm Water Management, The Eugene Permaculture Guild, Lane County Master Gardeners, and EWEB.

Some of the design criteria:
1. Use of rainwater catchments for providing water for plants in the garden and the adjacent community garden. Rainwater catchments
would also be used as a method for storm water mitigation.
2. Use of edible plants as part of the landscape, representing the aesthetics and edible qualities of different plants, i.e. fall color of blueberry bushes or the privacy of an espalier apple tree hedge.
3. Rain garden use to mitigate storm water on site.
4. Possibly incorporating part of the compost demonstration area into the garden.
5. Signs explaining principles of water wise gardening.
6. Garden should create an inviting feeling so pedestrian traffic will want to walk through the garden.
7. This garden is a demonstration of ideas for homeowners.

The time line is to foster partnerships and create the design this year. Next year would be the construction phase. Maintenance of the garden would be by volunteers or open to bid to one of the Water Wise Landscape Contractor companies in Lane County.
