Hi everyone, Geoff here. This is the first time that I have every logged onto a blog or forum for anything and that's after 15 years using a computer. I have been researching PO and the coming energy crisis for a while now and have a vested interest as I am working to sell my property in Perth and relocate my family, wife Veronica and two boys Jack 3 and Harry 1, to a bush block somewhere outside the CBD. Great to see a Perth PO site finally, here is a great link if you are interested in further research on what population growth and energy consumption over the next couple of years is going to result in, see the link below. Anyway I hope to stay in touch with the growing crowd of people interested in PO and raising awareness and working toward developing sustainable living. Cheers and bye for now

Sydney - Perth.... let's meet in the middle!
Tell you what Meg,
When you've finished with Perth and we've finished with Sydney, why don't you turn the Nullabor into a food forest and we'll do the same with Simpson's desert! Now there's a plan!
Cheers

Hi Geoff! Thanks for your
Hi Geoff!
Thanks for your blog! That Olduvai Theory is complex but also startlingly simple.... If I skimmed it right, it basically is saying that our current standard of living is directly proportional to the amount of energy we've been able to use/person thanks to cheap oil, and as it runs out, we'll have to go back to preindustrial levels of both living conditions and population. .... And that this will happen one way or another by the simple laws of life. The one "wild card" I suppose is technology. Though I don't put blind faith in it, we could use green technologies to improve on the pre industrial living standards we are heading back to somewhat. But the big picture remains - we are in for a rough descent from peak everything and it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Are you ready for the country.....
Hi Meg, Graeme and Geoff
Peter here, a few thousand kilometers east of you guys in Sydney. Congrats on all the good stuff you guys are doing. Love the website you have built Meg and Graeme. Best of luck with your efforts over there.
I'm ready for the country all right....but worried about the city too. The oil-dependency of people in big cities like Sydney is pretty frightening, so I've decided to stay and see what we can get done here about resilience. Tough job, but needs all the people we can get working on it. The Permaculture groups here in Sydney are great and they're onto it big time. The relocalisation-transition model is a very useful adjunct to the real, practical grass roots stuff these groups have been doing for a long while, so hopefully our Transition Sydney group can add energy to their good work.
Keep up the good work folks. When you've sorted out Perth, how about getting up to the Pilbara and sorting them out too - I have a daughter and grand-daughters living there!
Cheers
