Car Free PresentationSubmitted Sat, 2008-01-19 09:43 — JMaus Transportation alternatives! REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINTS—GO CAR FREE! What is your New Year’s resolution? Does it involve driving less; riding your bike, using public transportation, and carpooling more; or doing something radical like having your car crushed? At the Idaho Earth Institute’s Turtle Talk on Friday, January 25, 2008, you will hear from people that are reducing their carbon footprints and going car free! Josh Maus, auto mechanic/service writer, has read the books: Divorce Your Car by Katie Alford and How to Live Well Without Owning a Car by Chris Balish. He sold his car in March of 2007 and will inform people of the true costs of car ownership. Josh will also demonstrate what is needed for bike commuting. Bob Blurton, a self-taught peak oil expert, read Balish’s book and sold his truck in August of 2007. He will explain the “hows” and “whys” of going car free. Josh and Bob will lead the night’s discussion and will encourage others to share their stories. This Turtle Talk will be held downstairs in the dining room at Wright Congregation Church, 4821 West Franklin Road (near the Franklin & Orchard intersection) in Boise and will start with a potluck at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Children are welcome, and people are encouraged to walk, ride bikes, or carpool. Our monthly Turtle Talks on sustainability topics are free. (Donations will be accepted to cover facility-use costs.) Please pass this announcement along to family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers and introduce them to IEI! Attached is a flyer to distribute and post at your workplace, church, or neighborhood community center. IEI encourages individuals to live more sustainably on the earth. We offer seven discussion courses: *Voluntary Simplicity, *Exploring Deep Ecology, *Discovering a Sense of Place, *Choices for Sustainable Living, *Globalization and Its Critics, *Healthy Children - Healthy Planet, and *Global Warming: Changing CO2urse. Attached is a description of our featured discussion course this month—Global Warming: Changing CO2urse.
