> creative programs to address the needs of their island community.

> Farm to School Program: Dr. Henning Sehmsdorf, farmer and CSANR
> adjunct professor & Bill Evans, school superintendent, will discuss
> the Lopez island Farm Education program which provides hands-on
> agricultural and nutrition education to students as part of their
> school curriculum, and offers locally grown healthy food as part of
> the school lunch program.

> Mobile Processing Unit: Henning will tell about their Mobile
> Processing Unit, the first USDA approved unit in the US. His belief is
> that people should be able to feed themselves and their neighbors
> without compromising the animals’ well-being or the safety of the
> meat. The MPU is owned by the Land Trust and operated by the Island
> Grown Farmers Co-op.

> Sustainable Agriculture: LCLT staff, community volunteers, and local
> farmers work together to increase the economic feasibility of
> small-scale, ecologically sound agriculture while creating new avenues
> for sustainable land-based livelihoods, while supporting a goal of

> Affordable Housing: LCLT has responded to the acute need for
> affordable housing by creating three housing projects, totaling 22
> small homes, and is working on a fourth. One goal of the LCLT:
> "Acquire and hold land in trust in order to provide for permanently
> affordable housing. Homes shall be built and lands shall be used in an
> environmentally sensitive and socially responsible manner."
