Global warming and depletion of non-renewable resources are converging to create an Earth Crisis. We need to redefine wealth to measure it by the health of our families, communities and natural environment. We need to act locally across racial, religious and class lines to reorganize ourselves based on values of cooperation and respect for the Earth. We believe this is possible, practical and necessary if we are to survive the mounting crisis.
Earth Crisis Response seeks to educate our neighbors and friends about the looming crisis, with an eye towards community responses and solutions. We see tremendous potential for a positive transformation towards healthier and happier lifestyles, and more thoughtful economic and political systems.
We will work at the neighborhood and municipal levels to move our individual and collective choices towards sustainability and self-sufficiency. We will target that intersection of ecological, social, and economic justice. We envision solar panels and rooftop gardens on top of every public housing development. We envision major roads closed down for biking, walking, rollerblading, etc. We imagine fruit trees lining the streets and community gardens in every neighborhood. We imagine drastically reduced consumption and waste and drastically increased sharing of material goods.
We believe our communities will find the best in ourselves and draw on our human capacities to forge constructive ways to thrive and survive.
