Statement of Intent

The Energy Forum of Western Pennsylvania is comprised of local citizens working together to learn and to educate the public about the coming crisis in energy availability.

Our Mission is to help prepare ourselves and our communities to live responsibly with the increasing scarcity of critical resources in our world.

Our Goals are to develop and foster local sustainability, to build community awareness and cooperation, and to help control global warming by encouraging the use of locally generated minimally polluting resources wherever possible.

Our Method for accomplishing these goals is known as Relocalization, a strategy promoted by the Post Carbon Institute of Vancouver, Canada. Relocalization is a process which assists citizens in reducing energy consumption and dependence on big-scale energy sources; it helps us avoid pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; it promotes local production of goods and services, especially food and energy; and, it cultivates healthy local commerce, governance, and culture.

The Energy Forum of Western Pennsylvania is an independent member group of The Relocalization Network, a key initiative of the Post Carbon Institute.
