Group manager: Shelby Tay

Notice (17/08/07) :
This group is in need of a new coordinator or steering group!

We thank Bethany Schroeder for putting the group together in 2005 and coordinating efforts since - she is stepping down as coordinator to focus on other projects, but would be happy to answer any questions if anyone is interested in taking on the role. If you'd like to get more involved, contact Shelby Tay (email: network at postcarbon dot org), Relocalization Network Coordinator, to get started.

The Post Carbon Ithaca group seeks to provide a forum for interested residents of Ithaca and the surrounding Tompkins County area to discuss issues germaine to living in a reduced energy world. Examples of these issues include the depletion of fossil fuels and the way this loss of energy will influence many aspects of our collective environment, the effects of global warming and subsequent climate change on our community, challenges to the development and allocation of food products, and alterations in the production and availability of goods and essential services. We recognize that many of us lack the skills to cope with some if not all of these issues and that together we have an improved chance of making the transition from our current high energy-dependent life style to a sustainable manner of living.

Post Carbon Ithaca's initial goal will be to establish a safe place, whether actual or virtual, where community members can ask questions, voice concerns, and share ideas. To this end, we will contact various other local groups to explore points of common interest with the hope of discovering the physical, social, and spiritual resources that will allow us to plan for an unknown way of life. In addition, we have established monthly meetings, generally scheduled the third Tuesday of every month, where dicussion group members can explore the challenges and possible solutions to our collective situation.
