Introductions

I'll start...

Names people call me: Ann, Anneliese, Love, Mom, MaahMeeeee! and others...some of which I don't know and some of which I know but won't tell you. Cool

I am partnered
with a patient, loving and inspiring soulmate named Kevin.

I'm a stay-at-home mom
to an awe*some daughter. *in the most spiritual sense of the word.

I hunt for useful materials on craigslist and I can be a bit of an insomniac....baaaad combination!

Recent personal discoveries: the architectural salvage place on Grove St, and a deeper appreciation for the inspiration I draw from the BSLC community.

Recent fearless positive action:
completed the bicycle survey JohnW posted about in News, and helped rescue nearly a cord of maple hardwood from going to a landfill. Oh, and I stopped drinking daily coffee, which took more courage than you might think.

Some of my current relocalize goals:
grow some food, make some compost, pedal more - drive less,

BSLC has made a tremendous impact on the sustainability factor in my life. I'm very excited about where we're headed.

Look! A Newbie!

Hi, everyone! Thanks to Anneliese for inviting me to the group.

My name is Casey, I'm 32 years old, a work-outside-the-home to my wonderful 17 month old daughter, Freya, wife to Matt. We are new gardeners and have been trying the square foot gardening method in our little backyard. We're relatively new to dedicated green living, and I'm not sure how I would personally define that, other than to say we try to be mindful and make large and small changes wherever possible. I also love to scuttle out and raid neighbors' trash on Friday mornings to Freecycle stuff that shouldn't be in landfills!

Some of my goals for the future include getting our subdivision to change some covenants and practices to be greener, specifically allowing line drying of laundry in backyards, reducing the use of non-organic fertilizers and pesticides in the green spaces and along 5 Mile Creek, and promoting more use of the recycling program. I would also very much like to learn more about xeriscaping and landscaping small yards to be more kid-exploration-friendly. Oh, and "Last Child in the Woods" is more or less my Bible.

Pleased to "meet" you all!

  2. I'm a computer programmer for Boise State University
  3. I am on this exciting adventure with my wonderful partner, Anneliese
  4. I bike to work every day, rain or shine (or sleet or snow depending on the time of year)
  5. I recently joined the ranks of the Xtracycle club (I'll post a blog entry soon with the full story -- kinda interesting)

Hola!

My name is John and I feeled honored to be part of this group. Good people doing good things making the the world a better place.

I have many interests including air quality, clean local power generation, clean local transportation, good local organic food, and just hanging out with cool people!

I live in a passive solar house with solar electricity generation and solar hot water. I drive a solar charging electric car but now am following "the Jay way" and ride a bike most of the time. I have a couple of fruit trees in the front of the house (feed the homeless, plant a fruit tree in the front yard).

I am currently working on building up the soil behind the house with hopes of a future permaculture garden.

My vision for our community is one of sustainability. A community is that alive and growing, one that values each diverse person and nature as well, one that values the wisdom of the elders and the innovation of the youth. A community of leaders where everyone can exercise their own leadership in their own way. A truly sustainable local community at all levels including shelter, food, water, energy, transportation, education, culture, health, and an economy based on giving/sharing. All can contribute what they can and receive what they need. A community filled with joy and celebration, and one that knows no fear.

Welcome!

Hi Annieliese,
Welcome to relocalize.net!
It's great to hear that you have found the work of BSLC to be meaningful - the goal of the Relocalization Network is to work together and learn from and build on our collective body of knowledge, so that we may be better able to tackle the challenges we face. Good luck with growing food, making compost and cycling more!

For those interested, JohnW's post is here:

Welocme!

Welcome to all that have joined the BSLN recently. It is so exciting to see the group grow and the knowledge sharing is just awesome!

I want to introduce myself...

I am 31 years old and recently married one of the best men around, Jay Blackhurst (also a member here under the name jbird.) Together we have been creating a little haven of sustainable joy, our "Urban Farm".

I have been working as an artist since 2000 and enjoy creating just about anything! In addition to sculptures, printmaking and glass, I enjoy working on our garden, eco-projects and the art of life!

I am excited to get to know more of you through BSLN and the community that we are creating through "positive fearless action" ......
