New sustainability minister's challenge

Body:

We congratulate Andrew McNamara on his appointment to Minister for Sustainability in the new Queensland cabinet and also congratulate Premier Anna Bligh on her decision.

It's encouraging to see a vocal supporter of peak oil action appointed to such a position of responsibility (as State Minister for Sustainability in Queensland Australia). His call in yesterday's Courier Mail for a 'wartime mentality needed for fuel crisis' in response to peak oil is supported and welcomed as is his commissioned report into peak oil and its affect on Queensland. The whole article was excellent and it was great to see peak oil on the front page of our state's newspaper and the call for urgent and extensive action.

We look forward to being part of strategies, planning and action put in place very soon to prepare Queensland for the effects of peak oil and a successful energy descent.

(Andrew McNamara is a Labor member from Hervey Bay who is quoted in the front of Richard Heinberg's The Oil Depletion Protocol book)
