We will have a discussion on the topic "spreading awareness of peak oil." This is the fourth of five broad areas that we proposed to investigate in January 2007 (the last remaining one is "Energy Efficient technologies"). We will look at what existing nonpolitical groups (e. g. ASPO-USA, Post-Carbon Institute) are doing and how we might expand our outreach locally. While we have discussed politics before, we might also discuss whether politics is a viable means for spreading awareness. Among peak oil activists there is a lot of discussion but no agreement on politics; there are some who say (e. g. Dmitry Orlov) that political action is a distraction, while others are making this or that proposal for drastic political action (e. g., Alan Drake).
