Central Ohio Relocalization Effort (CORE), a local chapter of the Post Carbon Institute's Relocalization Network, was founded January 2006, as a response to both peak oil and global warming.

Globalization has devastated communities across the globe, has accelerated resource depletion & global warming, and is entirely dependent on abundant cheap energy.

Every community needs to have a peak oil group interested in networking with other like-minded groups locally, regionally, and globally that will provide the basis for transitioning from the petro-pollution economy into the era that represents "the end of cheap oil".

The first Peak Oil Resolution in the U.S. was passed by the San Francisco, CA Board of Supervisors in April 2006. Many other cities have also engaged in peak oil preparedness or relocalization and in March 2007 the Post Carbon Institute launched Post Carbon Cities to help prepare local governments for energy and climate uncertainty.

In December 2006 CORE (and other Central Ohio oil-aware citizens) completed a Peak Oil Resolution for the City of Columbus, to include the endorsements of six other local nonprofit organizations. Our efforts towards the passage of this resolution and its current status can be viewed by clicking here.

CORE's monthly meetings have been suspended as of January 2008 until further notice.
