Compost Supply in Sacramento

Does anyone know where I can buy compost in Sacramento cheaply? I've checked rates for compost at local soil and rock yards...prices are $19-25/yd. I heard from somebody (can't remember who) that the green waste disposal program has cheap (~$5/yd) compost for sale. I don't know if it's true...I checked some city and county websites and found no information for compost supply and my calls to thier offices have not been returned as of 4/4...sooo... if anyone knows anything, that would be a great help! thanks

You might want to try a

You might want to try a horse stable. Seems like I recall seeing one along the American River Bike trail. I can't remember where exactly. It is usually good stuff. You might need to add additinal richer nutrients such as chicken manure depending on what you are growing. Cow manure is relatively rich as well.

compost not available from city or county but...

nither the city nor the county of Sacramento offer composted material to the public. however, they both offer backyard compost bins, and the county is working on locating a composting facility in somewhere in the north county area.

Doug Eubanks 875 7165 is the contact at the county but they DO NOT OFFER COMPOSTED MATERIAL AT THIS TIME.

Other sources of composted materal Doug suggested are:

SMUD - wood chips - 732-5854
1708 59th street
9am -2:30pm monday through friday
bring your own shovel or tools to load the wood chips

Ready Grow - compost - 381-6063
south county
8909 elder creek road
