In my book "What money Can't Buy" I take a good look at a bad situation and think "How the heck am I going to get through this?" Then I go on to think of my family, loved ones and friends. While researching the book I started giving suggestions to my friends and family ( and anyone who would sit still long enough to listen) and they went something like this. It is going to be bad ( I would give them my reasons) and ask "So what are you going to do about it?" I would then suggest they set aside at least 3 months worth of food and some emergency water) That is the minimum, and it is not going to hurt you too much to get a couple extra things every time you go to the store.
Lately I have been asking groups what have they done incase of something like Avian Flu? 1/3 to 1/2 of the people too sick to work and the rest of use helping to look after them(not to mention the ones who die). That is a real possibility. What plans do we have as a community? As far as I can see, almost none. In my blogs I talk about things you can do to prepare as an individual, but for the longrange, you need a small community or at the very least an extended family (hopefully one that has a doctor and a dentist in it). With that small community you need enough land and livestock to feed and clothe yourself. I keep pointing to hemp as our saving plant that can do most of that for us. When (not if) some form of colapse happens you need to be mentally , emotionally and physically prepared for it.
Coffee is going to be scarce since it is grown from so far away, same with oranges. I am going to miss things like fresh Liquorice Allsorts. There may come a day when having a potatoe AND a cob of corn during your one meal of the day would be a blessed day. Anyone with goats or cows will be rich, same goes for bees. Many will have rabbits and chichens even in the small citys( possibly even in the big cities.)(where they can get away with it) I am raising worms since that is all I can do where I am with the laws we have in place.
My question is: What are you doing or planing to do to prepare for after the colapse?
Michael.
