Ianetti Pole Beans: Brought from Britolli, Italy, by the Ianetti family, Sydney Mines.

Plant 3 or 4 beans about 3 cm deep at the base of 2.5 m tall pole or piece of bamboo. You can make the poles into a tipi and grow a little house for yourself!

Harvest the beans while the pods are still flat, before the seeds swell, if you want them fresh for eating. To save seed for next year, they should be grown 10m from any other kind of bean, but peas are all right.

Tomatoes: Plant your tomato in its soil block, burying part of the stem. (It will form more roots and be sturdier that way). Don't fertilize too heavily even with compost, or your plant will be all leaves and no tomatoes! Some varieties will need staking. To save tomato seeds, they need to be grown 10m away from other kinds of tomatoes.

Come back at the end of summer and I will tell you how to save your seeds properly! And you can come to my table anytime for advice with your plants all through the summer.
