Statment of Intent
The local group Post Carbon Northern Rivers was set up at this website at the start of Spring 2006.
This site has been set up to help bring together concerned local people and to enable the sharing of questions, practical ideas and information. Local groups already concerned with this issue are invited to use this site's features as well.
There is already a lot of information available elsewhere speculating if this is when oil is starting to run out, the geopolitics involved and the related pressing issue of global warming. Rather than becoming another website about these issues, it's suggested that this site focus on what can done locally in practical response to this situation.
The following broad areas of inquiry are suggested:
1. What services and products will no longer be available?
2. What alternatives to these services and products can be locally established?
3. What needs to be done to establish these alternatives, most notably where this first requires threatened services and products?
Some work has already been done to answer these questions, but a local version is hopefully what can be built here, even if it ends up being mostly links to other sites. This information relies on being 'local' both in terms of what the Northern Rivers community wants to have and what the Northern Rivers area can sustain. Your involvement is therefore fundamental; many questions need to be asked and answered.
