On Sept. 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., BVR will host a special half-day workshop featuring Arthur Brock, of Targeted Currencies Network LLC in Denver, who will present a powerful and inspiring introduction to how local currencies can be developed to heal and empower our communities.
We would like to invite you to join us for this unique event, at 4500 19th Street (Boulder Meadows Community Room).
"We view currencies as dynamic, living systems necessary for the health of our communities," says Arthur. "We envision a rich ecology of special purpose currencies used to fulfill the needs of the people using it."
Arthur explains that currency and currents come from the same root, the Latin verb correre, meaning "to run." Both are about movement and flow. When he speaks of currencies, Arthur means "the tools for catalyzing currents."
"Currency should NOT be equated with money," he says. "Monetary currencies are a small part of a much larger framework. Flows of trust, reputation, knowledge, information, value, goods, services, resources, gifts, admiration, and the experience of acceptance or belonging are just some of the kinds of things that you can activate with currencies."
Arthur Brock has spent more than 20 years designing and authoring software and managing IT services. A systems thinker and vision-oriented leader, Arthur designed his own degree in Artificial Intelligence at Michigan State University. He spent his early years becoming an expert in artificial intelligence while working at G.M., Chrysler, and Hughes Aircraft. As a serial entrepreneur, he founded Dream Team Technologies, The Geek Gene, and Targeted Currencies Network. His experience in business along with exposure to emerging ideas in economic development led him to seek new ways of overcoming the persistent financial limitations and constraints which seem to plague entrepreneurs, non- profits and community builders.
Arthur has designed innovative currency solutions to stimulate the flow of resources in both business and communities, and is an eloquent and passionate speaker able to translate the complexities of currency design into human language that is both inspiring and highly motivating.
In addition to being an excellent introduction to local currencies, this workshop will provide opportunities to become involved with currency projects now being developed in this area.
