Hi Daryl!
Thanks for posting this - it sounds like a lot of fun!
Here's a bit more info for others - pulled from http://commgardens.meetup.com/56/:
The Vancouver Guerilla Gardening Meetup Group
Guerrila Gardening is a lot like good grafitti on a bland wall, only our mediums are seeds, soil and nature!
According to the Toronto Public Space Committee:
"Without permit or license, we plant seeds and seedlings in all those neglected corners of public space. Join us as we vandalise the city with nature!"
This is the place to meet other locals who are interested in reclaiming derelict urban land and transforming these bare soils into natural places of cultural and ecological value.
According to Wilkipedia:
"Guerrilla gardening is a form of nonviolent direct action. Guerrilla gardeners believe in reclaiming land from perceived neglect or misuse and assigning a new purpose for it. Guerrilla gardeners will sometimes carry out their actions late at night geared up with gardening gloves, watering cans, compost, seeds and plants. They plant and sow a new vegetable patch or flowering garden. Others will work more openly, actively seeking to engage with members of the local community."
