Group manager: Sonya

Hello,

You've found the Eudlo Relocalisaton Group's website. We are a group of people working together to prepare our town for peak oil and climate change.

Welcome...

[if you would like to see full range of peak oil, climate change and other relocalisation initiatives and activities happening across the Sunshine Coast visit the Sunshine Coast Energy Action Centre website at www.seac.net.au], but now back to Eudlo...

Eudlo is located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, about half way between the towns of Palmwoods and Mooloolah. Settled in 1891 as a timber and cattle town, Eudlo now consists of a primary school, general store, post office, tennis courts, a rural fire service, a town hall and an enthusiastic and active relocalisation group.

Eudlo lies on the national rail line (our section is about to be upgraded), so we are well positioned for a future using less energy. We have mainly fertile soil, good rainfall, and established local food growers and experienced permaculturists living in the area.

The group meets at 8.30am (in spring and summer) on the first Sunday of the month in the park opposite the General Store, just near the tennis courts. You are welcome to join us and if you have any excess organic produce, seeds or cuttings from your garden, please bring it along to share, barter or exchange.

We have also created a bulk-buying group to buy (mostly organic) dried goods and oils which you are most welcome to be a part of and benefit from. This year, in 2008, we will be working on a seed saving network and learning more about the importance of seed saving - a vital skill. We also hold working bees at member's gardens to get some serious food production happening locally!

If you live in the Eudlo area, or perhaps in one of the neighbouring towns and are interested in; joining us, starting your own relocalisation group or linking in with us in some way please contact me, Sonya - ERG coordinator at raintreeorganics@yahoo.com.au

Sonya is also involved in regional peak oil and climate change action, relocalisation and energy descent preparedness for the Coast and coordinates both the Creating a Sustainable Sunshine Coast relocalisation group (CASSC) and the Sunshine Coast Energy Action Centre www.seac.net.au.

If you are new to the idea of relocalisation here is a definition plus a few other key words you’ll encounter;

Relocalisation; the reversal of globalisation, supporting local food, local industries and local economies, developing and rebuilding community. A structured way to prepare for a future where we use much less fossil fuel and move positively and proactively into energy descent.

Peak Oil - the half way point of the world’s oil supply. Global Peak Oil. The end of the cheap, easy to find oil supplies. The start of increased prices and increased scarcity. Really simplified I know…but there is a mass of information about this out there. I recommend the energy bulletin, the oil drum and the post carbon institute for news on peak oil.

Energy Descent — is to move from high fossil fuel use to low fossil fuel use.

Energy Descent Action Planning – a plan for peak oil working with local government, groups and individuals to create a sustainable future.

We already have a great bunch of people as part of our group, and their expertise and broad range of skills are very relevant to our successful relocalisation, so please come along one Sunday and introduce yourself, we discuss ideas like; community gardens, planting out the park in edible trees, creating more community cohesion, car pooling, creating more walking and cycling tracks and you can meet your neighbours too! We are also working on our contribution to the overall Eudlo Concept Plan for the future.

If you are already a member of the group, please sign on as a member here and post away! This is your forum, so make the most of it.
