Creation of a Online Plant Compatability Database

Having just begun to sink my teeth into Bill Mollisonâ€™s permaculture "Bible," an idea popped into my head last night pertaining to species selection and utilizing our technological ally known as the internet. It starts with the notion that different species clearly have an effect on eachother, sometimes mutually beneficial, sometimes harmful, etc. For instance, walnut trees hinder or kill apple trees and acacia trees and apple trees are mutually beneficial. It is important when selecting plants for a garden or food forest to know which ones work well together or not. So, I think it would be useful to have an online database to collect and share this important information.

Cafe Voltaire/Benicia, CA as a showcase for Relocalization efforts

Hello to All Post-Carbonites,
After months of planning and hard work, Cafe Voltaire, our labor of love in Benicia, is about to open. We want it to be a showcase for promoting Relocatization efforts in our community and use it as a meeting place for implementing Post-Carbon principles.

The cafe is named after the Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire, and modeled after the European coffee houses that were sources of intellectual thought and revolutionary change. We hope Cafe Voltaire will spark a new revolution and enlightenment in the face of a Post-Carbon world. I personally see the issues of oil dependency--the environment - and war as intricately related; I also belong to the Green Party and CodePink and intend to promote their values/issues as well.

At this time, we would like to invite your ideas, comments about things we can do, (workshops, speakers, internet networking) and things we can sell such as local organic/ fair trade products and alternatives to petroleum-based products. Eventually, we would like Cafe Voltaire to serve as a model business for Relocalization efforts; endless fundraising is no fun, let's use the market to make relocalizing a reality.

So feel free to contact us with your ideas/suggestions. We would love to hear from you and hope you can visit us soon.
