I teach in the Communications Department of Dominican University in San Rafael, and am currently pursuing PhD work on the topic of "community response to peak oil". Andre and I want to create a hub for discussion and debate, but more importantly for activist organizing, to help prepare the community where we and our family and friends reside for some very challenging times.</p> <p>The ultimate effects of climate change may not be known for decades, but the severe economic and political dislocations resulting from oil and natural gas depletion will be evident in a few short years. It is time for us all to face the fact that we must change the way we live, both individually and collectively, and that we must begin today. Organization and education on the level of the town, neighborhood and household must commence without further delay.</p> <p>We stand against powerful social, economic and political forces. But most of all, we stand against the complacency and ignorance that allow us to expect that life will go on as it always has.
