While we are duly concerned about all the negative consequences of fossil fuels and related problems such as global warming, I think we tend to overlook that there are a lot of individual scientists and researchers out there who are hard at work to come up with renewable energy sources as well as the equipment and machines to create and sustain them. We have to begin with what Nikola Tesla posited a century or so ago, that there is abundant energy within our own atmosphere, in the form of electromagnetism, that can be tapped for our electrical power needs, even our transportation needs. Over the years various individuals have explored his ideas and inventions, and expounded upon new ideas as well, in attempts to bring his vision of abundant energy to fruition. I believe we are getting closer all the time. A recent article I read in Nexus Magazine, Issue Vol 12, No. 4, entitled "The Free Energy Race" by Jeff Sargent, discusses some of this progress.
One inventer, Colonel Tom Bearden, has actually patented a device called the MEG, or Motionless Electromagnetic Generator, which, of course, generates electricity. He actually co-invented MEG with four others, Jean Louis Naudin, Stephen L. Patrick, James C. Hayes, and Kenneth D. Moore. It is now being developed for production and marketing. Another device is the REMAT, or Rare Earth Magnetic Amplification Technology, that is also in late development stages by a company called GMC Holdings. Neither of these devices is some lunatic fringe toy fit only for UFO enthusiasts, but are inventions apparently being looked at by Siemens, BAE Systems, NASA, Motorola, to name a few organizations.
The REMAT website advertises that it can be used in homes, businesses, transportation, etc., wherever old-fashioned generators are currently in operation, and is clean, efficient, non-polluting and powered by electromagnetism. Tests of the REMAT have been very positive. There is definitely hope out there for the post carbon world.

To get a glimpse of how far along research is on new technologies, I briefly toured and highly recommend Louis Naudin's website at:
