[one of the founders of the Ten Rivers Food Web, Harry MacCormack, will be speaking this Saturday, 5/3, at EWEB, 2PM; more in upcoming events]
How to use Eugene's neighborhood structure to relocalize food supply, from the Corvallis-area's Ten Rivers Food Web:
Want to get involved starting this in our area?...
IT'S OFFICIAL
Human beings affect the environment.
IT'S A FACT
Individuals can choose how they affect the environment.
In Corvallis, we are discovering ways we can make fact an
initiative that will benefit our families, friends and neighbors:
• We are bringing food closer to home.
• We are reducing the effect of distribution.
• We are stabilizing our local agricultural economy.
• We are doing all this on our own initiative
-with the help of Ten Rivers Food Web
Here are some possibilities already being discussed:
• a farmers' market in each ward
• community gardens network
• neighborhood gleaners
• community composting exchange with farmers
• home delivery
• micro-enterprises: baked goods, ethnic foods, etc.
• produce exchange
• CSA drop site
• group contracting for staple commodities
What possibilities can you think of?
Bring them to a Food Sectors meeting in your Neighborhood.
