Oregon's 'Stealth' Energy Resource

From yesterday's Oregonian Business section. The link has the basic article not the charts and graphics that were in the paper.

Energy Efficiency Disclosures

Thanks for this post, Adam. I wonder if any of these organizations are aware of the Energy Efficiency Disclosure for Renters law that went into effect in Maine last year: http://www.maine.gov/mpuc/doing_business/forms/EnergyEfficiencyDisclosur...

This would be a good idea for Oregon/Washington county to consider implementing. My feeling is that the younger generation (more renters presumably) are more aware of energy issues (via global warming) and would welcome this type of information for their decision making. I know I would. It might also spur some landlords to consider upgrading their properties, etc.

Are you aware of any websites which share energy conservation ideas for renters? I just bought another rug to increase the insulation on the floor in one of the bedrooms. Maybe we renters could start swapping ideas of the non-capital improvement sort?

Renter Ideas for Energy Saving Techniques

One energy saving thing I do is use the hot water heater to heat up my living room. The hot water heater is in a closet in my living room and during the winter by just leaving the closet door open it generates enough heat so that I don't need to turn on the heater. That and my wife and I generally don't like a warm apartment anyway, the heat stays on 55 for most of the winter, if the temperature goes down really low, 60. Also found that putting down towels or blankets at the seams of windows and pattio doors keeps out cold air as well.
