Organic Wheat Seed Farmer Field Day

Organic Wheat Seed Farmer Field Day
Tuesday, September 9th, 2008, 12:00-3:00

Nash’s Organic Produce, Sequim, WA

Organic Seed Alliance and WSU are hosting an organic wheat field day for farmers in Jefferson and Clallam Counties September 9th, 2008.

In 2008 the WSU wheat breeding program partnered with Nash’s Organic Produce and other organic farms in Western Washington to conduct on-farm wheat variety trials with a goal of identifying the best varieties for Western Washington climatic conditions.

Farmers are invited to participate in wheat trial evaluations in the field, learn about organic wheat production practices, organic wheat markets, and view demonstrations of wheat threshing and grain combining equipment. Organic grain seed production for local markets and on-farm use is a prime opportunity to increase farm sustainability and diversify production.

The field day will include information and discussions from Dr. Stephen Jones, Kevin Murphy, and Lori Hoagland, WSU, Nash Huber and Scott Chichester, Nash’s Organic Produce, and Micaela Colley, Organic Seed Alliance.

Pre-registration is not required, but please contact Micaela Colley at Organic Seed Alliance (360) 385-7192, micaela@seedalliance.org, if you have any questions or would like to coordinate a ride share. The farm store is nearby, but you may also want to bring snacks, water and a good hat.
