This is a first post, so it's an introduction as well.
I'm a South Philly gal, born & raised...spent as much time in Santa Cruz, and several years in Ballina, Curracloe, County Wexford (across the water, the local newspaper calls it.) Dublin is one of my favourite places.
Currently - until we return to Europe - I reside outside a small Georgia town called Luthersville - where the flag (both) and the ten commandments stand proudly on lawns and in front of buildings (no disrespect intended whatsoever).
Also, I travel around the planet as a Coordinator for the World's Regions as a volunteer for a spiritual (not religious) non-profit called Humanity's Team - basically saying, 'We are all One - let's practice.' Practicing is often more difficult than one imagines. But so is relocalization.
Getting folks up from their couches after a day of working at least one job, some kids, caring for elders, in major commutes that don't move for hours, etc., etc., etc.
I teach Spanish, with tutoring available in Russian & Italian (I speak Madarin well enough now - after a while studying - to wow any teenager in a Chinese restaurant here!). My hubby and I also have a eBay used vinyl record store online, where we sell all manner of music (you like it, we either have it or can find it.) That keeps us in survival mode when teaching isn't happening.
And a Geek is what I am. If it's free, I just might be able to find it on the net. Love building amateur websites, have more than several Blogs, and am a Research Journalist out of Germany. One of the folks who researchs for fun....yep.
So, let me know how I can help. I noticed there are several members 25 miles or less away from me. Only problem is that none have their email listed...bummer.
May your day be chock-full of Blessings & Belly Laughs - and Opportunites in Abundance to pass them forward.
Namaste.

Namaste'
The me in you says hi to the you in me. (did I get that right?)
Do you know Ellen Damon or Joey Hart from Santa Cruz? They're my only first cousins.
I think there is a lot you can do from Georgia, especially if you are working through faith communities. There is Interfaith Power and Light and the related Interfaith Coalition on the Environment. Both work to make churches, mosques, synagogs, etc. sustainable, along with their congregations.
Since you're involved with POD you are free to post on ECLA PA. I look forward to your input.

Contacting members
Hi Nancy,
Welcome to relocalize.net!
You mentioned contacting members -
Members (everyone who creates a user account for themselves) can be contacted through their personal contact page, if they have enabled this function (see below). Whenever you see a username on the website, eg. author of a post, it is always linked to the user's profile page. For instance if you click on your username on your post, it'll take you to http://www.relocalize.net/user/21st_century_bluesvues - once you get to the person's profile page, you should see a tab at the top of the page for 'contact'. Click on the 'contact' tab and it'll take you to a page where you can write a message, which is then forwarded to the person's email account.
We don't list user email addresses firstly to protect user privacy and second to save everyone from getting more spam! However, if you would like to share your email with others, you can write it in your bio, or add it to your posts. You can also link to your contact page instead of writing in your email.
To see whether you have your preferences set to receive emails from your contact form, click on “my account” in the yellow side bar under the User Menu. This will take you to your profile page, then click on the “edit” tab. Scroll down the page and find the box for 'Contact Settings'. Make sure that the Personal contact form box is checked if you would like to be available for contact. Remember to save your changes by clicking “submit”.
This feature allows other users to contact you through the website, while not revealing your email address. If someone sends you a message via your contact form, the message will be forwarded to your email inbox (the one you used to create your relocalize.net account).
If you have any questions, please contact us!
Best,
Shelby

Welcome
Welcome to the Relocalization Network and Post Carbon. I love the idea of "let's practice." It's a great phrase for the spirit, and it's a great phrase for what people are doing on the Relocalization Network, practicing how to build local economies that aren't based on oil. In looking around your current home in Georgia, do you see examples of people or communities doing things that are moving toward relocalization, even if they might not think of it that way?
