The Precautionary Principle regarding vaccines

Many who follow medical developments (including myself and my husband who is a physician) have grave concerns regarding the current status of vaccines in the U.S. This includes both the ones taken voluntarily and thoses recommended or mandated by the government.

Part of our current medical system in the United States involves physician (and Public Health professionals) reliance on government agencies, such as the Communicable Disease Center (CDC) and the National Instutue of Health (NIH), for information and recommendations regarding the need, efficacy and safety of both immunizations and vaccinations (which are not the same thing).

Over the years the CDC and the NIH have become more and more politicized, especially under the Bush Administration. [Under the Bush Administration practically all federal agencies are currently headed by political appointees who are watchdogs for the administration.] It's probably no secret to anyone that the pharmaceutical industry has lots of "friends" on the "Hill". In 2005 a piece of legislation was signed into law by George Bush called the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act. "This legislation was unilaterally and arrogantly inserted into the bill after the conferece committee was over. It was a blatant power play by the two most powerful men in Congress", according to Rep David Obey (D-WI).

See full article regarding this legislation titled, "Allowing the Drug Companies to Poison Our Children": http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0322-22.htm

The Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act allows the drug companies who develop and sell vaccines to be grossly negligent and act with wanton recklessness [involving a few children or even thousands of children] and still escape liability as long as they can show that their misconduct wasn't willful. Obviously this legislation creates a great incentive for producing profitable vaccines especially as it also removes practically all of the risk (liability). Most physicians are likely not aware of this pharmaceutical immunity law and are still relying on the CDC and the NIH for information regarding vaccinations.

However, in light of a CDC recommendation that was announced earlier this year, PREPA is even more troublesome. Last February the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices announced a new recommendation; that all children should get vaccinated for flu as soon as possible. This recommendation included children from age 6 months to 18 years. For more details read "Flu Shots Urged for all Children":

PREPA even preempts the laws of states like California that have passed legislation outlawing merury in childhood vaccinations.

Now when you add the current push regarding the HPV vaccine Gardasil, that is frequently advertised on TV, I and many others are even more concerned. Before you consider the Gardasil vaccine for the girls in your family, please review Judicial Watch's Investigation of the Side-Effects of the HPV Vaccine at: http://www.judicialwatch.org/gardasil
Some deaths have even been reported by the Food and Drug Administration: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=68454

Some states require vaccinations before admitting children to enter our education system but have granted exemptions. The good news for us Ohioans is that according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, Ohio parents are allowed medical, religious or personal-belief exemptions from immunizations required for school entry. (See attachment for map of state by state exemption rulings.)

The Precautionary Principle now seems to apply to all vaccines, in fact a well researched expose on this topic in now free on the internet. The piece is called "In Lies We Trust" by Dr. Leonard Horowitz. While it is quite alarming, it is worth taking the time to view as there is no substitute for a well informed citizenry. We can personally practice the Precautionary Principle by educating ourselves on the important issues that impact our lives and making informed decisions.
